Identifikasi Bakat dan Minat Siswa Sebagai Dasar Pengembangan Potensi Diri di Sekolah Menengah Pertama 03 Pematang Ibul

This research aims to understand how the process of identifying students’ talents and interests serves as the basis for developing self-potential at SMP Negeri 03 Pematang Ibul. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, which is used to explore the meanings that individuals or groups assign to social issues. The data collection techniques used include participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The selection of subjects was carried out using purposive sampling based on the relevance of their involvement. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that identifying talents and interests plays an important role in helping students develop their self-potential optimally. The teacher at SMP Negeri 03 Pematang Ibul conducts the identification process through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and analysis of students’ activities. Accurate identification helps students become more confident, more motivated, and more easily guided toward activities that match their abilities and tendencies. This approach has proven effective in developing students’ self-potential.
